Why women and girls.

Virginia Women’s Voices advocates for gender, racial, and economic justice by elevating the collective power of women’s and girls’ ideas. Together we ignite positive change.

Virginia can and must do more to improve opportunities, safety, and equality for women and girls. For instance:

  • Achieving pay equity for women in Virginia is projected to take until 2075

  • 33% of Virginia women experience intimate partner violence, rape, and/or stalking in their lifetimes

  • Firearms are involved in 70% of intimate partner homicides in the state

  • Women make up only 35% of our state legislature members

Women and girls are pivotal leaders in their communities, and the Virginia Women’s Voices elevates and leverages our collective voices to hurry history and ensure our seat the decision making table. Join us.

Who is included when we say women?

When we use the term women, we include cis and trans women. As an organization utilizing a gender, racial, and economic equity lens to guide our work, we celebrate a diverse spectrum of gender identities and expressions including non-binary and gender-expansive people. We envision a future where women of every background and identity thrive.
